Hue Jackson Biography

Hue Jackson, who is in his second year as quarterbacks coach for the Ravens, made an immediate impact in Baltimore, guiding rookie QB Joe Flacco in 2008. Flacco became the first rookie QB to win two playoff games and also won the Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award via an NFL.com fan vote. The versatile Jackson has built an impressive resume over the course of his 24-year coaching career. He served as offensive coordinator for two NFL teams (Atlanta - 2007 and Washington - 2003) and two NCAA teams (USC - 1997-2000 and California - 1996). Under Hue’s tenure in Cincinnati (2004-06), Chad Ochocinco and T.J. Houshmandzadeh became one of the most prolific wide-receiving tandems in Bengals and NFL history.

2008: (with Baltimore) Joined head coach John Harbaugh’s staff as quarterbacks coach and guided first-round draft pick QB Joe Flacco to a standout rookie year...Flacco led the Ravens to the AFC Championship game, becoming the first rookie in NFL history to win two playoff games...He won the Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Year Award (NFL.com fan vote), finishing 257-of-428 for 2,971 yards and 14 TDs...Flacco also ran for two TDs and caught a 43-yard pass from fellow QB Troy Smith...The versatile Smith contributed a 14-yard TD pass and lined up under center, at WR and at RB in special packages.

2007: (with Atlanta) Spent one season as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator amidst unusual adversity…Starting QB Michael Vick was lost for the season and head coach Bobby Petrino resigned in mid-December to rejoin the college ranks.

2004-06: (with Cincinnati) 2006: Tutored a talented Bengals WR corps…Chad Ochocinco (1,369) and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (1,081) became the first pair of Bengals to eclipse the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a single season… Ochocinco led the NFL in receiving yards and for the fourth-consecutive season, his yards topped the AFC…It marked the first time a player had led his conference in receiving yards in four straight seasons…Established an NFL record for most receiving yards in consecutive games (450) and a Bengals’ record for most single-game receiving yards (260 against Chargers)…The Pro Bowl receiver also set the top four marks for receiving yards in a single season…Houshmandzadeh peaked in Jackson’s final year when he totaled then-career highs (90-1,081)…T.J. improved each year under Hue’s tutelage…In 2007, Jackson’s first year away from the wideout, T.J. tied for the NFL lead in catches (112-1,143 yards), earning his first Pro Bowl nod…Jackson also worked with talented young receiver Chris Henry, helping him to produce career highs in receptions (36), yards (605) and TDs (9) in 2006.

2005: In his second year, the Ochocinco-Houshmandzadeh tandem combined to total 175 receptions for 2,388 yards, while helping team secure the AFC North title and a playoff berth for the first time in a decade…The duo scored 27 of the team’s 48 TDs, helping the Bengals finish fourth in the NFL in scoring (26.3 ppg).

2004: Hired by head coach Marvin Lewis (together at Redskins in 2002) and provided immediate leadership for the young receivers.
