At the midpoint of their 2009 campaign, the Ravens find themselves mired in a group of teams that are in desperate need to string together a few victories in order to keep playoff hopes alive. Coming off a resounding 17-7 loss at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore (4-4) has dropped four of the last five contests. There can be no sugar-coating what happened yesterday at Paul Brown Stadium. A superior first-place football team, the Cincinnati Bengals, easily defeated an inconsistent team with a .500 record -- the Ravens. The winners were better on offense, better on defense, better in the kicking game, and much sharper at the outset. They jumped ahead early, never looked back, and left the Ravens in a precarious state.

There were few bright spots in the Ravens’ 17-7 loss to the Bengals Sunday, but Lardarius Webb was definitely one of them. The unit will have a chance to demonstrate that such an outing was not an anomaly this weekend when Baltimore travels to Cincinnati to face Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer and his stable of talented wideouts.

For most of the offseason, many Ravens fans clamored for their team to trade with the Denver Broncos for then-disgruntled receiver Brandon Marshall. This weekend, Marshall actually will come to Baltimore, only it won’t be in purple and black. The undefeated Broncos bring a potentially deadly passing attack to M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday, one that is ranked 12th in the league with 236.0 yards per game.
